Budapest Sip and Sail: The Prosecco Cruise

Budapest Sip and Sail is a 75-minute prosecco cruise from Akadémia Dock by the Chain Bridge. Drinks, sailing times, the 18+ rule and the price.

Updated October 2026

Budapest Sip and Sail is an adults-only prosecco cruise: 75 minutes on the Danube from Akadémia Dock 2, beside the Chain Bridge, with prosecco, prosecco cocktails and beer poured for 90 minutes, from boarding until the boat docks. It is run by Budapest Boat Party, which sells it as Sip & Sail: The Prosecco Cruise. On GetYourGuide it costs about $30 to $34 a person and is rated 4.5 from more than 900 reviews (checked October 2026).

Book it if everyone in your group is 18 or over and you want a sociable evening hour with a glass that keeps being filled. Look elsewhere if you are travelling with children or want someone on board explaining the sights.

What “Unlimited Prosecco” Covers on the Sip and Sail Cruise

The GetYourGuide listing pours prosecco in three styles, sweet, medium and dry, plus prosecco cocktails and beer. Budapest Boat Party’s own page says the same: prosecco, prosecco cocktails and beers for an hour and a half. Reviewers from September 2026 say the crew walks round topping up glasses, so you are not queueing at the bar all evening.

What it does not cover: spirits, and anything to eat. Ultimate Budapest, which also sells the cruise, offers spirits with mixers as a premium package. Booked on GetYourGuide, the drinks are prosecco, prosecco cocktails and beer.

Two rules worth knowing before you go. Everyone needs to be 18 or over, with ID. And guests who arrive visibly drunk can be turned away without a refund, so this is not the second stop of a long afternoon.

Budapest Sip and Sail Times Through the Winter

Budapest Boat Party publishes two sailings a night, with boarding 15 minutes before the boat leaves:

  • First sailing: board 18:00, sail 18:15, back at 19:30.
  • Second sailing: board 20:00, sail 20:15, back at 21:30.

From 1 November 2026 the cruise runs Thursday to Sunday. Over Christmas it runs every night from 21 to 23 December and from 27 to 30 December. There are no sailings from 24 to 26 December, or on 31 December and 1 January. Thursday to Sunday resumes on 2 January 2027. Until 31 October 2026 it ran Wednesday to Sunday.

Last entry is 15 minutes after boarding opens, which is when the boat leaves. The crew does not wait for latecomers.

It is sold as a sunset cruise, and in summer the early sailing can meet the sunset. From autumn both sailings leave after dark, so you see the city lit up rather than the sky changing colour. From 31 July 2026 the decorative floodlighting on Budapest’s landmarks was off, to save power during the heatwave. The mayor announced on 30 August 2026 that the city’s savings measures would be lifted from 1 September, and evening cruise reviews from September and October 2026 describe Parliament and the bridges lit again.

Which sailing? Ultimate Budapest says there is a live DJ on most 20:00 sailings and recommends the 18:00 one for a calmer evening. Pick 20:00 if you want music and a crowd, 18:00 if you want to talk and look.

Is the Budapest Boat Party Sip and Sail a Party?

Not really. Budapest Boat Party runs a separate boat party, the Danube Beat, on what it calls an XL party boat, for up to 400 guests by its own count. Sip & Sail is the early-evening one. Ultimate Budapest calls it “a sightseeing cruise for grown-ups, not a club night.”

On board there is a DJ playing background music, an open-air deck and an indoor saloon. A professional photographer goes round taking pictures.

Nobody narrates on board. The ticket comes with a free audio tour in the Ultimate Budapest app, which you play on your own phone. One reviewer in April 2026 described it as a cruise for young people, with a lot of drinking and no history lesson. If you want the history told in person, the boat cruise with a local live guide (Magical Budapest Small Group & Private Tours) is from $48 with a drink (checked October 2026).

One naming trap: Budapest Boat Party and Boat Party Budapest are different companies with different boats. Book the one whose name is on your voucher.

Where the Sip and Sail Cruise Leaves From

Map of the Budapest Sip and Sail cruise: Akadémia Dock 2 on the Pest bank between Parliament and the Chain Bridge, and the loop on the Danube from Margaret Bridge in the north to Rákóczi Bridge in the south, past Buda Castle and Margaret Island
Akadémia Dock 2 is on the Pest bank between Parliament and the Chain Bridge. The loop runs from Margaret Bridge to Rákóczi Bridge.

Akadémia Dock 2 is on the Pest embankment just north of the Chain Bridge, a short walk south of Parliament. Look for the MS Stadt Wien. Kossuth Lajos tér on metro line 2 is the nearest metro stop, and trams 2 and 2B stop at Széchenyi István tér.

The boat sails the downtown stretch between Margaret Bridge and Rákóczi Bridge, which Budapest Boat Party still calls by its old name, Lágymányosi Bridge. That takes in Parliament, Margaret Island, Buda Castle, the Chain Bridge and Gellért Hill, then turns and comes back to the same dock.

Check your voucher on the day. In August 2026, when the Danube ran very low, some sailings were cancelled and the boarding point moved, and several reviewers wrote that they were not told. The boat runs rain or shine, and it is not suitable for wheelchair users.

Budapest Sip and Sail Reviews

On GetYourGuide the cruise is rated 4.5 from more than 900 reviews (checked October 2026). The good reviews say the same few things: the views, the staff, and glasses that never stay empty. The weaker ones are about logistics rather than the drinks: queues at boarding, plastic cups, and the August 2026 change of dock. If you want a guided history of the riverfront, this is the wrong boat.
